Name: Color: Work By NHIA Students and Community Members
Date: March 9, 2018
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM EST
Event Description:
COLOR is the second open-call exhibition hosted by the Derryfield School Lyceum Gallery, specifically for the students, faculty, alumni and community members of the New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA). The call invited artists to submit work in any media, with the stipulation that the piece(s) be rich with color. While the subject matter, materials, and inspirations may vary, the imagery and forms presented all demonstrate the range and flexibility of the artists to explore and present their idea with color in mind.

Sixteen artists responded to the call for COLOR, including four NHIA faculty. Since 2001, the work of Yoav Horesh, BFA Chair of Photography at NHIA, has dealt with conflict, human tragedy, memory, and recovery. Stop by and look upon his triptych, "A Tree Grows in Harlem" to see how this work resonates with you. “Grid”, a vibrant painting by Adjunct Faculty Peter Dixon, “is about the edges of seeing.” Also included in the exhibition are paintings by BFA Chair of Fine Art, Patrick McCay, and Adjunct Faculty Patricia Schappler. McCay’s "Moose and Sushi Bowls” is one of a series of “re-interpretations of the well known New England icons and visual experiences.” Schappler’s two life-sized paintings, "The Guardians" & "One Thousand and One Nights" are rich with narrative and invite the viewer to interpret the emotions of the subjects.
Along with an Advanced Studio Art Pop-Up show, a closing reception for the artists will be held on March 9, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. just prior to the Upper School musical Pippin.
Come for a little late winter brightness and see the COLOR.
