ANNUAL SUMMER LANDSCAPE ARTIST RETREAT NHIA presents the 9th annual summer plein air painting and photography workshop. Students and NHIA’s faculty will stay at the scenic Appalachian Mountain Club Resort in Bretoon Woods, New Hampshire. PROGRAM OPTIONS Photographing the Landscape Instructor: Gary Samson The majestic White Mountains will be the backdrop for this hands-on workshop. Students will not only explore the creation of landscape imagery in a breathtaking setting, but also edit their photographs for output on a large format Epson printer. The course will cover camera equipment selection and use in the field, editing digital files using Adobe Photoshop software, printing digital files, and a brief history of American landscape photography. Group critiques will guide students to the successful completion of a small body of work by the end of the workshop. Students should bring a digital SLR camera, a choice of lenses and a tripod, as well as a good pair of walking shoes. Painting the Landscape Instructor: Patrick McCay workshop will provide opportunities to build, sharpen or revisit approaches to landscape painting. Participants will explore a range of materials, styles and techniques that will capture the nature of form and color out of doors, where light and atmosphere are ever changing. Hands-on demonstrations and the active on-site challenge of the vista-filled location are supported by individual and group critiques intended to expand expression, learning and spontaneity.
