Job Description
Derryfield is seeking to find a Manager of The Derryfield Fund & Alumni Relations. A great opportunity for growth for an individual with three - five years of fundraising/sales or account management experience, with a passion to connect to others, and seeking to learn and grow into a program director. This is a critical role in our External Affairs Department which is made up of the Philanthropy & Engagement team, Marketing and Communications team, and the Admission and Enrollment team.

The Derryfield Fund: 

The Derryfield Fund is poised for growth, and Derryfield is looking for the right person to take it to the next level. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy & Engagement (P&E), the Manager of The Derryfield Fund & Alumni Relations will design, implement and manage all aspects of a comprehensive annual giving program. With mentorship from the Director of P&E, the Manager will implement: alumni, parent, and alumni parent giving; the Day of Giving, spring digital campaigns and more. In this role the Manager manages identification, cultivation, solicitations, acquisition, stewardship, and documentation.
 

Alumni Relations:

In partnership with the Philanthropy Office Coordinator, the scope of alumni relations includes: managing reunion; collaboration with senior head class advisors on senior programming and giving; connecting students to alumni with shared interests; coordinating alumni events; and sharing alumni updates and connections with the Derryfield community.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record as an engaged fundraiser/sales with expertise in relationship management both internally with staff and colleagues as well as externally with donors and volunteers. This candidate will also possess strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrate success in thinking creatively, excellent management and organizational skills, the willingness to travel and the ability to work some nights and

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a yearly plan and calendar of annual giving solicitations and stewardship including targeted campaigns for current parents, grandparents, alumni parents, alumni, and faculty and staff.

  • Identify new sources of support for individual giving, coordinate the solicitation of new prospects and the upgrade of current donors who have the potential to increase their support. 

  • Manage donor stewardship programs, including acknowledgment policies and practice.

  • Work with the Director of P&E to establish and monitor monthly goals for The Derryfield Fund. 

  • With support from the P&E team, manage the “Day of Giving” program by creating marketing content and calendar, and on-campus activities. 

  • Support the P&E team on planning and implementation of annual events to include, but not limited to: Leadership Reception, Reunion, GrandFriends & Founders Day, regional alumni events, parent events, and more. 

  • Analyze annual giving trends in order to work with the Director of P&E to determine goals and metrics. 

  • Develop and manage fundraising appeals whether direct mail or digital fundraising. 

  • Develop and manage programs for lapsed donors of all constituencies. 

  • Prepare and analyze all annual giving reports; collaborate with the Philanthropy Office Coordinator in managing the Raiser’s Edge database including reports, queries and gift acknowledgment letters. 

  • Provide regular reports on membership growth and trends for the Director of Philanthropy & Engagement and prepare updates for the Director to share with the School’s P&E Committee. 

  • Create volunteer/solicitor training programs, materials and communications.

  • Establish metrics to assess progress of the program including personal visits and solicitation targets.

  • Participate fully in the life of the School - opportunities include attending musicals, concerts, sporting events, P&E specific events, advisor to students, and more. 

 

Skills, Knowledge, Experience:

  • Capable of understanding the full scope of projects while seeing individual tasks through to completion.

  • Must be project oriented, possessing an ability to prioritize multiple tasks under pressure while managing deadlines.

  • Ability to cultivate and build superior relationships with donors for purposes of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts to the School.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of the school community – the Head of School, faculty and staff, the Board of Trustees, alumni, parents and friends of the school.

  • Ability to market an annual giving program to different audiences.

  • Able to write clear and compelling direct mail copy and various forms of motivational matter.

  • Willingness to learn online fundraising including marketing through social media.

  • Ability to recognize and cultivate donors with the potential for significant major and planned gifts.

  • Willingness to learn identifying, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers.

  • An open and collaborative style. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

  • Willingness to learn necessary computer skills - Derryfield utilizes Google Workspace, Give Campus, Raiser’s Edge, My School App, and more. 

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly and regularly adjust strategy based on giving trends.

  • A strong commitment to education.

  • Superior interpersonal skills. 

  • Creative ability, a positive outlook, willingness to learn and grow, and a sense of humor.

  • A minimum of 3 years of fundraising, sales, or relationship management.  

  • Ability to work full-time on campus in Manchester, NH with a flexible schedule
