Millyard Mingle: A BioTech/MedTech Networking Event

The BioTech/MedTech Cluster, an initiative of the New Hampshire High Tech Council (Council) will host a networking event on Thursday, August 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Manchester Historic Association’s Millyard Museum, located at 200 Bedford Street in Manchester. The event will focus on how the city of Manchester has adapted and transformed throughout history, including once being a textile mill town to today’s innovation hub, filled with Fortune 500 companies, start-ups, rapidly growing companies and top institutions of higher education.

“Manchester is a city steeped in a history of technology innovation and leadership,” said Cindy Conde, chair of the Council’s BioTech/MedTech Cluster. “Once home to the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, the largest textile mill in the world at that time, Manchester is now reinventing itself as a world leader in biomedical engineering and life sciences, and has poised the Manchester Millyard to become the epicenter of regenerative manufacturing and many other life-saving and life-changing treatments and technologies. Manchester’s history is not without its hardships, however those hardships have taught lessons that led the city to the success it experiences today.”

Manchester’s Millyard Museum has been a staple of the Millyard since 2001 and includes a permanent exhibit that traces the story of Manchester throughout history, from the native population to the industrial revolution and beyond. The industrial portion of the exhibit focuses on the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, an industrial giant that employed more than 17,000 people at its peak. The legacy of the company still remains, with the mill buildings comprising a substantial portion of Manchester’s downtown skyline. Though Manchester no longer produces textiles, the Millyard has become a hotbed of innovation for technology and the life sciences.

The August 16 event, titled Millyard Mingle: A BioTech/MedTech Networking Event, will also include guided tours of the Millyard Museum. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Registration is available here or by calling 603.935.8951. Tickets are $15 for Council members, $25 for not-yet-members, $10 for students, and include light refreshments.
