Auburn, N.H., - Freedom Energy Logistics, a leading energy management firm is pleased to announce that Lebanon city officials have chosen Freedom Logistics for its electricity procurement services. Lebanon has approximately 13,500 residents but upwards of 30,000 people are in the city on any given day due to the diverse business community which also includes health services provided by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the Norris Cancer Center.

Freedom Energy Logistics will be responsible for the wholesale electricity purchasing for more than 75 buildings or entities across the municipality of Lebanon including the City libraries, police and fire stations, and the local airport.

“Freedom Energy Logistics successfully pioneered this concept of direct end user access to the (ISO-NE) bulk power market, where we worked through the NEPOOL stakeholder process to design and refine the ground rules for direct market participation by end users,” said Bart Fromuth, COO, Freedom Energy Logistics. “Although Lebanon may be considered a small city, they are a perfect example of the type of energy user that can significantly benefit from this type of purchasing power.”

“The program that we have signed up with Freedom Energy Logistics for provides electricity that will vary in price from hour to hour in a way that reflects actual wholesale electricity costs,” said Tad Montgomery, Lebanon’s Energy and Facilities Manager. “Working with Freedom Energy Logistics allows the City to access real-time wholesale prices while avoiding the extensive process of registering as an independent load-serving entity with ISO-NE, although we are considering working with Freedom Energy to eventually do that as well.  Within one year we are planning for the city municipality to be powered by our landfill gas-to-energy project and solar arrays on a number of different facilities.  Freedom will help us to make that transition.”

City Councilor, Lebanon Energy Advisory Committee Chair, and former NH PUC Commissioner Clifton Below noted, “this partnership will allow the City flexibility and should save us tens of thousands of dollars each year.  Another advantage of working with Freedom Energy Logistics is that they predict when system loads are going to peak and are advising us on when to adjust City electrical use to reduce our share of the system peak and resulting capacity charges.  This already saved the City an estimated $27,000 when we curtailed electric loads at our water and wastewater treatment plants on the hottest day of the summer.  This move to Real-Time Pricing is the first step in the City’s overall program to develop a municipal electric aggregation pilot that will make these savings available to all residents and businesses in the City and promote the broad adoption of local renewable energy.  We look forward to working with Freedom Energy Logistics and using their energy management services.”

The contract between Freedom Energy Logistics and the City of Lebanon went into effect July 2018.
