Consequently\, employers are spending more and more time addressing HR issues tied to employee absences rather than employee performance and conduct on the job. How can an employer manage all of its employees’ requests for changes to the daily schedule and time off? Through hypotheticals and group discussion\, attendees at this seminar will learn how to apply core legal principles to these common workplace situations. We will address a number of topics in this session\, including:·        Identification of leaves/breaks available under federal and state law\, as well as discretionary leaves (FMLA\, ADA\, maternity\, workers’ compensation\, military\, NH Crime Victims\, jury duty\, meal breaks\, bereavement\, nursing mothers break times)\, ·        Review of eligibility criteria for these leaves\, ·        Explanation of the importance of written policies\, especially in terms of return to work and benefits issues\, ·        Discussion of FMLA/ADA (e.g. when FMLA rights are exhausted\, what (if any) obligations are there to allow additional time off under the ADA?)\, and ·        Review of Wage and Hour Issues as they relate to these "Time Away From Work" categories.We will hold a Q&A session following the presentation.
