Name: 2009 Breakfast Forum - Social Media 101 - June
Date: June 18, 2009
Time: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM EDT
Event Description:

Do you Tweet, Post, Friend or Blog? Perhaps you’ve heard all of these words used in daily conversation but have no clue how to use them in a sentence yourself. In an effort to educate, train and inspire our Chamber members, the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is hosting a breakfast forum that will address these terms. The forum is titled "Social Media 101."

The breakfast will be a chance for members of the business community to tackle their fears and dispel myths regarding the often unchartered terrirtory that is social media. The breakfast will include a panel of three experts who will give an overview of social media, suggestions of how to use social media as a business and some real world examples of businesses in New Hampshire that are doing just that.

Our expert panel will include Ted McEnroe, the Director of Digital Media for New England Cable News and NECN.com. McEnroe manages the network's website and social media properties. He does a morning technology news segment on NECN Monday through Thursday mornings at 7:40 a.m. McEnroe also Tweets regularly on Twitter, you can follow him @tmcenroe or check out his blog, www.yankee20.com.

In addition to McEnroe, Leslie Poston will discuss how businesses can use social media to their advantage. She is passionate about helping people and businesses find their way to success via technology. As a writer, she has over 200 ebooks and books in her repertoire and several more in development, including Twitter for Dummies with Laura Fitton and Michael Gruen (set for release in summer 2009).

A firm believer in translating online relationships and successes into the offline world, Poston has also founded Social Media Breakfast New Hampshire, PodCamp NH/ME and the nationwide Strong Women in Tech initiative. You can check out Leslie’s blog at www.uptownuncorked.com.

Our third member of the panel is Matt Chagnon, a Communications Specialist for Public Service of New Hampshire. Chagnon focuses on media relations, content development, and social media. In addition to internal web applications, Matt manages psnhnews.com, which has become PSNH's corporate news portal and media hub. ""Together with senior company spokesman, Martin Murray, Matt has created and maintains PSNH's presence on a number of social media sites, including Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook. Using these tools, they have been able to effectively communicate with customers and the media. During the December 2008 ice storm, they provided both the company and its customers with unprecedented access to one another. In the first 48 hours of restoration, PSNH's followers on Twitter soared from around 100 to over 1,900.

The Greater Manchester Chamber is embracing social media with a Facebook Page, and Twitter account (follow @grtrmanchester).
