The entrepreneurial minds behind three of New England’s largest food and hospitality companies are coming together to host two events in New Hampshire to reach out to citizens and encourage them to participate in the November presidential elections. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry’s, Gary Hirshberg of Stonyfield Farm and Alex Ray of The Common Man family of restaurants, all supporters of Barack Obama, are hosting two Down Home Cajun Deep Fried Turkey Barbecues, inviting citizens from all political backgrounds to enjoy foot-stomping music, great food and hear from the business leaders on the importance of the upcoming presidential election and the need for change in America. “The results of this presidential election will reverberate throughout the rest of the 21st Century,” said Hirshberg, CE-YO of Stonyfield Farm. “Everyone needs to be involved. This is our attempt to reach folks who stay away from typical campaign rallies. This is a true grassroots community effort that grew out of our personal desires to contribute to this incredibly important national discussion.” “We want everyone to support democracy and do their part in this important election,” said Ray, founder of The Common Man family. “It doesn’t matter which candidate you’re backing or even if you’re undecided, we want citizens to come, have fun and hopefully walk away with the desire to play an active role in November.” While all three business leaders support Democratic nominee Barack Obama for President, Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, says the event won’t be full of hand-shaking politicians or oppressive campaign rhetoric. “You won’t find deep-fried turkey on any restaurant menu and you won’t find any politicians or political parties at these events,” said Cohen. “It’s just great food, excellent music and us.” Cost to attend is $10 for adults and $5 for children and college students.
