QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. As a result of this course, you will: Recognize warning signs and risk factors of suicide; Ask directly if someone is thinking about suicide, and know how to respond if the answer is yes; Offer hope and support while ensuring safety; Refer the person to professional help or crisis resources; Understand the history, research, and public health context of suicide prevention.
