"Privacy in the Age of Social Media - Will Privacy Survive Technology?"
Is privacy dead in a society engrossed by the Internet, mobile devices and social media? We devour new technologies without meaningful reflection about the privacy implications, like Google Glass, the iPhone 5 fingerprint scanner, and apps that transmit GPS data. We demonize and discredit the person who revealed that the Government has been collecting and storing email and telephone communications for years without our knowledge or consent. Is there any role left for privacy in this type of world? Precious few legal protections exist for privacy, and those sparse seeds are growing feebly at best. This presentation will address the rules and regulations governing privacy in this country, the norms and reasonable expectations of privacy in the digital age, and the direction society may take in the future.
