Artist Talk:Social Practice and Creative Placemaking with Chris Archer
The contemporary art landscape is increasingly populated by projects the look more like community development than our conventional understanding of an artist’s creation. The mix of social practice and civic art is becoming an increasingly accessible and attractive approach for today’s creative practitioners. Likewise, the fields of community development and urban planning continue to evolve toward integrating arts and culture into their work, creating an overlap that reveals both shared goals and the potential for making positive change in our communities. Chris Archer, Associate Dean of Community Education at NHIA will explore this overlap and the implications of new territories and new methodologies for artists, municipalities, planners, businesses, and the community at large.
